Horror scene stealers #1 – the studious cat in Inferno (1980)

Animals in Dario Argento films don’t tend to do very well – cats get drowned, guide dogs get spooky and kill their owners and we won’t talk about the monkey in Phenomena. Actually, he does ok.

One of the most resplendent and scene stealing moggies in film is Ania Pieroni’s cat in Inferno. Mark (Leigh McCloskey) is a music student in Rome who is just about to get involved in the search for the infamous Argento evil trio of witches The Three Mothers, tipped off by his sister Rose (Irene Miracle). While attempting to read Rose’s letter in class, Mark is entranced by a beautiful student (Pieroni) who has somehow snuck her cat into the lecture theatre. Standard. The student and cat both look the same. THE CAT IS HECKA BEAUTIFUL. When they stare at him, it’s such a sensual and gorgeous shot but you’ve got to admit – the cat steals the show.
