The sixth instalment of the Child’s Play franchise, Curse of Chucky is a really stupid, fun watch. It went direct to video but it’s still a high quality production and features some very gory moments.
Paraplegic Nica Pierce (Fiona Dourif) lives with her mother Sarah (Chantal Quesnel) in a fantastically gothic home. Chucky arrives in the post addressed to Sarah and later on, her daughter finds her stabbed to death. The rest of Nica’s family arrive for the funeral and Chucky starts playing nasty with them all; there’s rat poison in the vegetarian chilli, eyeballs being popped out, electrocution and an axe to the head. Turns out Chucky/Charles Lee Ray has a personal grudge against the family and he’s out to get his revenge.
It’s all done very stylishly with entertaining leads from all of the characters. Chucky does his usual thing with black comedy and sets us up nicely for 2017’s Cult of Chucky. Killer dolls will run and run.
GORE RATING: 4/5
Watch it for: Chucky doing his Chucky thing!
Watch out for: That axe has GOT to hurt
